March madness in the Timbavati Reserve…..

3 March 2011 – A young male leopard at Piet se Pan (Shindzela, Timbavati Reserve) during the afternoon drive. A relaxed male rhino at main dam and a small breeding herd of elephant on main dam road.

4 March 2011 – Female leopard close to main dam – possibly the mother of the cub that we saw yesterday. Six adult lionesses on graded road – I haven’t seen this group for a while and hope that they stay around for a bit longer. All of the lions are in very good condition and look very well fed and healthy.

6 March 2011. – Big male leopard on Van der Merwe Cut line, 2 lionesses at the tower (possibly a splinter group of the 6 we saw on the 4th of March) and elephant and buffalo all over. As the lion in our area feed dominantly on buffalo they are often around when big herds of buffalo move through the area.

Shindzela Safari Camp – Lioness on Buffalo Kill

7 March 2011 – Male leopard on Caroline Cut line (Timbavati Reserve)– a different one to the one we saw yesterday. Leopards all over at the moment. Sam found lion tracks on rhino run and found the 6 lioness on a buffalo that they had killed in the night – an excellent sighting, almost nothing left and sure that they will move off tomorrow – hopefully get some great hyena action if there is anything left on the carcass.
