Let sleeping lions sleep……

1 March 2011. – One of the best morning game drives ever at Shindzela. Left the camp early and got a fantastic male leopard at main dam- drove down the Kruger Park Cut Line and bumped a group of 5 giraffe. While watching the giraffe, 3 rhino appeared out of the bush. After a great rhino sighting we got the tracks of a large herd of buffalo and managed to find those too. Just past the buffalo we saw a single elephant bull- we just passed the elephant, when we saw 3 lions! We have not seen these lions before – an old lioness and a female and male cub both about 18 months old. On the way back to breakfast we got another herd of buffalo and another female leopard! What an amazing drive!

Shindzela Safari Camp – Giraffe, Timbavati Reserve

Went to look for the lions again during the afternoon drive- as they has moved into the drainage line, Sam and I decided to go in on a foot Safari with the guests and see if we could relocate them . The tracks lead down into a very thick area and a narrow, sandy river bed. Just as we were about to pull out ( Due to the thick vegetation and unfavorable situation,) Sam saw a lioness fast asleep on her back in the Timbavati Reserve riverbed no more than 20 m away from us. All of the guests were able to see the lions and we managed to extract ourselves from the situation with out waking the lions…..
