A crazy rhino day today in the wonderful Timbavati Reserve – I don’t know where they have all come from but no less than 12 different rhino on
the morning and afternoon drive – we must try and get some identity kits on the go and see who’s who. A breeding herd of elephant on the Avoca Cut Line and 2 buffalo bulls in camp. Plenty of snakes around – they must be having a last feed just before winter. We saw a large puff adder and Mike caught a small python close to main Dam.
11 March 2011.
Plenty of elephant and buffalo around still – huge elephant bull in camp that we had to chase out before we went to bed last night- he was eating the last remaining Marula fruit outside tent 6 and was possibly going to be there all night. One lioness at broken dam – the mother of the cubs that we saw a while back- no sign of the older one so we can assume that she has died. Mike herd her calling and looking for the cubs but was unable to get a visual. I will be surprised if there are still four remaining cubs, as she will have difficulty feeding these cubs on her own. At least the bush is drying out a bit now which should make hunting a bit easier for her in the Greater Kruger National Park.
