Ground Hornbill Conservation
On the Jonniesdale concession, Timbavati Nature Reserve, home of Shindzela Bush Camp and walking safari’s, we are lucky to see Ground Hornbills fairly often. There is a Ground Hornbill nesting log on the property. This log is built into tree cover, and is there to support the breeding efforts of the endangered Ground Hornbill.
From the 01 November 2009, research is being conducted on the resident cheetah population of the Timbavati Reserve. This research is specifically about the abundance, spatial ecology and genetic diversity of cheetahs in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
Tented safari camps and lodges in the Timbavati Reserve have been asked to take photographs of cheetahs seen in game drives or walking safaris, and to record their special individual markings, as well as the time, date, location and group composition of the sighting. (The group composition records the total number of cheetahs in the sighting, adult males, adult females and young)
