Shindzela sub contracts airport transfers to a local transfer company. There are no shuttle transfers travelling from the local airport (Hoedspruit Airport) to Shindzela. The shuttle service only operates from Johannesburg to the Timbavati Gate or Nelspruit area to Shindzela, where we then arrange for a private transfer to Shindzela (this is all included in the above given rate)

4. Timbavati Game Reserve entrance fees:
Your airport transfers do include the Timbavati Vehicle Entry fee, but not the Timbavati Conservation Levy of R 180.00 per person per stay. This Conservation Levy is payable in cash/credit card on arrival at Shindzela Camp. This Conservation Levy is a once off fee, not a per night fee... Reserve fees are subject to change without notice.

5. Self drive: Many guests of Shindzela travel on a self drive basis. The camp can be reached by self drive in a sedan (but sometimes takes some careful driving!) Please ALWAYS request our self drive directions – you need these in order to find Shindzela in the Timbavati. We do not recommend following GPS once within the reserve, as this will take you on the wrong roads.

IMPORTANT: If you are self-driving, please allow adequate time to get to Shindzela – you must be in camp by latest 15h00. Our game drive goes out by 16h00; if you are late, we unfortunately cannot send the game drive back to fetch you from camp – this disrupts others guests game sightings and afternoon game drive.

Many guests drive from the Kruger to Shindzela – again, it is imperative that you work out your driving time in the Kruger. If you are coming out of the Kruger at Orpen Gate, please make sure you exit the Park at Orpen by 12h00, otherwise you will not reach our camp in time. There is NO access to the Timbavati Reserve from the Kruger Orpen Gate (although it looks that way on a map or GPS), so you do need to come back to the main R40 road and then past the Hoedspruit Airport to get to the Timbavati. Allow 2 hours to drive from Orpen Gate to Shindzela.

Distances: Please remember that although distances in the area (especially within Kruger and the Timbavati) may not look vast, your driving time is slow – in most cases probably about 25 km/hr, so the time spent travelling can add up. You also need to allow extra time to stop at sightings, and travel slowly on dirt / gravel roads.

6. There is an OR Tambo Johannesburg airport / Timbavati or Nelspruit / Timbavati daily scheduled shuttle road transfer service. This is a scheduled transfer, so guests will travel with other visitors.

This service departs at 06h45 – 07h15 on a daily basis from the Bus Terminal Building (on the chairs provided at the Magic Bus office) at OR Tambo Johannesburg Airport. Shuttle drivers will collect clients from this point; you will see the branded vehicle pull up outside if they arrive early. To get to the Bus Terminal Building follow the overhead signboards through the airport stating Transport or Car Rental or Bus Terminal or ask at the Information Desk for directions. It is located in close proximity to both the Car Rental Building and the Intercontinental Hotel at OR Tambo. If you are lost please call us on 082 045 7864. For the Nelspruit time table please send through your enquiry to Shindzela@mweb.co.za

Travelling time from Johannesburg is about 6 – 6.5 hours. Please note that guests must overnight in Johannesburg the night before and make you’re their own way to the airport for the pick up. The shuttle service can also collect you from the following airport hotels:

The Safari Club, City Lodge, OR Tambo, Road Lodge OR Tambo, Holiday Inn Garden Court OR Tambo, Emperors Palace, Airport Grand, Peermont Hotels OR Tambo.

On the return transfer, the shuttle should arrive at the O R Tambo airport by 18h30/19h00 – please make sure you book late connecting flights. IMPORTANT: This is a shuttle transfer and will leave promptly, so if you are not there at the appointed time, the shuttle will depart.

7. All of the transfer services can be booked directly with Shindzela, and we can add the costs to your accommodation invoice, so that you are not making separate payments.
