The huge herd of buffalo is back on the Timbavati Reserve concession- we bumped them close to Rhino run – there must be at least 400 of them. White Rhino on graded road – a bit skittish and not a great sighting. Hyena in camp all night again last night- nice to hear them calling close by and even nicer if they don’t destroy anything in camp…..

An excellent PM drive. Got a very agitated herd of buffalo on the Caroline cut Line. Heard lions growling and buffalo bellowing just off the road. Managed to get the vehicle in just in time to see a young buffalo escape from the clutches of one of our male lions. The buffalo advanced on the lion as a herd – the lion’s nerve eventually broke – he ran for it, and the buffalo calf, although slightly injured joined the rest of the herd. The buffalo moved off in the direction of Avoca, Southern part of Timbavati Reserve and we saw the male lion follow a few minutes later. Sure that he will stick to the herd until he eventually gets one.
