There are numerous advantages to enjoying a safari holiday in the well-known Timbavati Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
Shindzela is situated in a private concession area within the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. This means we are able to offer our Kruger holiday guests a number of distinct advantages for their South African Safari.
- we are the only safari operator in this concession area, which means we are undisturbed by other commercial vehicles, so have unrestricted opportunity for animals sightings.
- we are able to offer game drives in a Big Five Reserve.
- the camp is unfenced, making it very much part of the wilderness.
- we can stay out later on activities, including night drives (should we have a great sighting).
- we are permitted to drive off road into the bush in search of predators and / or unusual sightings.
Guests staying at Shindzela tented safari camp enjoy daily game drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle, with a knowledgeable ranger and expert tracker.
Our game drives are conducted within the Big 5 Greater Kruger National Park, inside the Timbavati Nature Reserve, South Africa.
The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, South Africa, is home to over 40 mammal species, including Africa’s Big Five animals (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant). Other game that you may see whilst on your Greater Kruger safari include hyena, jackal, giraffe, hippo, wild dog, zebra, kudu and impala, to mention just a few. There are over 350 bird species recorded in the Reserve. The Timbavati Reserve is open to the Kruger National Park, providing animals with a vast expanse of wilderness in which to roam free of fences is an ideal environment in which to fully enjoy your safari holiday in South Africa.
The day begins with an early morning wake-up call at about 05h00. Enjoy a welcome cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, before departing on a morning game drive
Return to camp at mid-morning for a hearty breakfast /brunch. Relax in camp until lunch in the afternoon, after which it is time to depart on the afternoon drive.
The best time to view game on your African safari, are the early hours of the morning and during the late afternoon. This is when most game is active. During the heat of the day, many animals tend to seek shade and are less active. Night game drives with a spotlight bring you in to contact with nocturnal animals such as Bush babies, Civets, Genets, African wild cats, Porcupines and so forth.
Whilst Shindzela is situated within a big 5 area & we make every effort to seek out the big 5 animals during your stay, we also focus on the safari environment as a whole, showing appreciation for all aspects of the wilderness – animal behaviour and habitat, trees, insects and plant life as well as viewing all the other species of animals found in the bush.
